Ancient History Activities for Kids

Some kids may wonder why we should even bother studying ancient history. After all, everything that happened then is, well, ancient. I was one of those people. As a math and science nerd, studying history always seemed relatively pointless when I was growing up. Memorizing names and dates felt like such a waste of time.

Now that I’m an adult, and thankfully less self-centered than my former teenage self, I understand how important and fascinating history really is. When I was a child, last week seemed like a long time ago. Now that I’m grown, I’m amazed by how much we have in common with these ancient people.

The things we need (food, a place to live, security, relationships, etc.) are the same things people have needed since the beginning of time. Advancements that took place back then, such as systems of writing, agriculture, and building techniques, have definitely affected the way our society is structured today.
